Cali: You are the greatest -- we always have a good crowd for
your shows, and you are a real entertainer. You take time to make
a real show and have a plan, and tell interesting things about the
composers of the songs you have that time (often in their birthday
months). You are fun, and energetic, and all the things us old
folks like. Makes us think we are back out of the 80's and like
we were when we had our wits, our energy, our muscles to dance and do
things we can just watch and remember now. How lucky we are to
have you come and put up with us. Fondly, Fran L. "Well, you were a complete success,
congratulations! The women of the club were crazy about your
performance. You got rave reviews and several members expressed
interest in having you work your magic for their future
events." Rossmoor Woman's

| Cool Things People Say About Her New CD "Are You Having Any Fun" ![]() "On the 15 songs here Cali showcases her solid uke chops (both strumming and picking) and her warm and friendly vocals. A clutch of standards share the CD with some well-crafted and hummable originals. Highlights include the title song, Cole Porter's 'True Love,' 'On Green Dolphin Street,' 'Soup Du Jour,' 'Enjoy Yourself' and a swingin' version of the Andy Griffith TV Theme songs with her uke licks standing in for the famous whistle. Other top tracks are her songs 'Happy Ever After? No Such Ting' and 'Maui Nights.' Expertly produced by Rick Cunha with a supporting cast of fine studio musicians, this CD is a gem." Jim Beloff of Flea Market Music Cali Rose shows her versatility with this CD. She strums, picks, and sings her way into your heart with a combination of fun little ditties, love songs, and a few classics. I love "True Love,” "Beautiful, Beautiful Hanalei," and "Soup Du Jour." Those three songs were just wonderful. Kudos to Jim Beloff and Herb Ohta for "Soup Du Jour." That was the highlight of the album. I do want to acknowledge Cali Rose's "Home Is Where I Set My Tushie Down." It is a tune with cute lyrics and a meaning that is inspirational. This CD was a very nice mix of tunes and styles. If you like upbeat, positive, happy songs, this CD is for you. Read the entire review (in PDF) from Ukulele Player Magazine, Issue 7, August 2009 More about Ukulele Player Magazine "Cali, it is so fine. The arrangements, the mixing, the production level, not to mention your gorgeous vocal sound and the ukulele playing. Just excellent. All the work you did month after month -- it's all there. What I like more is that you deliver what you promised. All the songs make one smile; they tickle and tease. This is what you wanted to do. Make us smile." Victor B. "Excellent playing and also very professional recording. Great job. I hope the recording and your career go well." John Kitakis (Ko'olau Ukulele Company) "...the consistency I've heard in the songs are in the 'spirit' you successfully impart to your music. Music is rightfully comprised of several facets much beyond notes, chords and arrangements and I especially enjoy how I feel when I listen to your music." Ukulele master, Kimo Hussey "I listened to your CD on the way to work this morning and also as I was out doing errands at lunch. It's great - I was smiling the whole time I was listening. It's got great compositions, great singing, great musicianship and it's very well produced. Unfortunately, it's had a huge psychological impact on me. My letter of resignation has been submitted and I will be in Maui until further notice." Mike S. "We fully appreciate your lovely renditions, plus you really transfer your unique touch to the instrument as it sings along with your vocals!" Rick and Jill S. "Your song 'Happy Ever After, No Such Ting' and 'Home is Where I Sit My Tushie Down' really made me smile and I loved the 'Beautiful Beautiful Hanalei' and 'Maui Nights.' You have a marvelous gift." Carol F. "Chris and I wanted to pass along a thank you! We have been playing your CD in the office this week and everyone here thoroughly enjoyed the tunes. Being on the front end of "tings," it's always nice to see and hear the finished product. It is especially nice when the music is as good as "Are you having any fun?"! Very serene. Thanks again for sharing." Chris Bailey and Brian Jones of Disc Makers. "I really liked your CD. My 2 favorites were by you; Set Your Tushie Down and Maui Nights." Peggy K. "Cali, I wanted you to know directly that I find your current CD a wonderful pleasure to hear. My enjoyment began with the first bar of "Are You Having Fun!" Yes! Ernie S. "This is one of the best CD's I have ever heard. I love it!!! Great voice...great production...great arrangements...great originals...great choice on the cover tunes.. great musicianship...great graphics, cd cover and photos. Great things in store for this CD and Cali Rose!!!" Jamie S. "I listened to "Are You Having Any Fun?" and I truly had fun listening. I laughed and nearly cried. Your music Cali gives so much, a whole philosophy, your personality, as well as pleasure. I so enjoyed." Leslie W. "I've been loving listening to it in my car as I jaunt down the street, singing along with it. It is just a superb CD! The production is splendid with everything clear, precise and balanced. Especially, the slower songs reveal the nuances of your voice (e.g., Maui Nights, Beautiful Dreamer, Sweetheart, True Love). Your uke playing is just wonderful! Really neat arrangements, and skillful precise playing. Every note, high and low, is in tune and perfectly rendered. You do some amazing ukelizations. Your singing is also wonderful. You are really versatile and with great presentation and arrangements. Nice back up singing too. What a pro you are. Cali, dear, this is just a marvelously enthralling and professional recording showing off your best stuff, and I'm enjoying it immensely." Stephen Fry "...a sweet and simple joy to listen to. What an uplifting array of music and lyric. I am so impressed with your originals, your poetry, singing, and with your ukulele playing! It's a first class production, and I wish you all the success that you have merited in the sales and distribution." Emerson P. "Congratulations on your success. You are putting smiles on people's faces far and wide. What pleasure--and humor. I tell you, my tush is happier for having listened." Diane V. We just got your CD in the mail! What a wonderful production, and you are as good as they get!! Thank you SO much for sending it to us... We'll do some more listening, but so far our favourite is "Maui Nights." Bosko and Honey "...it's the players like you and Craig that make the world of ukulele what it is. Put a guitar in someone's hands and they want to be a rock start. Put a Hawaiian ukulele in someone's hands and they just want to play music and smile." Mickey Maguire of Uke Player Magazine "I LOVE your CD! It is the best. My new favorite!!The whole package; the songs, the accompaniment, your lovely voice. Truly, it is such a breath of fresh air! Can’t wait to get to one of your shows live and in person!!" Janet Miller "Had no idea you play the uke! Loved the Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay song!!! You have a wonderful touch - the intro on "The Fishing Hole" is just gorgeous!" Mahalo, Kelli G. "A most sincere thank you for the SMILES, your CD makes me happy, great production, you sound fantastic and the songs are a kick - "true classic Cali Rose !!!" with her uka uka uka uka LELE." Kevin F. "I absolutely love it! The song selection, vocals and musicianship are nothing less than stellar. Bruce B. "Well I said I L O V E your website and I do and I also applaud your one-woman-do-it-all approach, going to the care homes and connecting with your CDs and upbeat attitude, so very important, as you said, in these challenging of all times. Looking forward to your CD receipt and connecting more as I'm always drawn to the under-dogs of this world, those who exhibit grit." L. Smallwood Note: This album was nomiated for Best Adult Contemporary Album in the 2009 Hawaii Music Awards. | Cool Things People Say About Her Comedy CD " Cali Rose Gets Goofy" ![]() "Very funny and on the money! This whole album is a gem." KAOS Radio "When describing Cali Rose, the words "wacky" and "zany" come to mind...unexpectedly good music backing up the jokes..." Dr. Davis "In her most recent work, multi-talented singer/songwriter Cali Rose offers up an eclectic brew of cute, witty and sarcastic little songs, musings and observations. Delivered in an effective, low-key manner, this comedy/acoustic album interestingly meshes together many of Rose's various musical influences. From blues, country, jazz, pop and Latin to the overt folk vein, she delivers some truly hilarious, sweet and stabbing mediations on the silliest aspects of life that we often take for granted." Campus Circle "'It's a P.M.S. Kind of Day,' 'The Doggie-Doo Blues,' 'Pooey, Pooey, Pooey, It's Christmas,' and other humorous songs about life in the 90's fill this sparkling collection, entertaining written and sung and beautifully produced." Dr. Demento "Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Cali Rose, has produced a delightful and eclectic brew of fun, playfulness, intelligence and wit. Her piano and guitar playing is also excellent and she is joined by many talented musicians on this CD. She may be goofy, but she sure is good!" Picklehead Music "Cali is a witty, charming songwriter with a great sense of humor. Her keen sense of the obvious is truly a gift, seriously. All the simple things right under our noses that we may overlook in a particular situation, Cali sees them and hand it back to us in a delightful and enchanting musical display. There are no "fluff" words here. She calls them as she sees them and make no mistake, although the content makes us laugh, Cali Rose is an exceptional artist with a serious love for music."
